Jose Tatis, 26, of Hazleton, died on March 9 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, according to the Lackawanna County coroner.

Miles then went around the counter and shot a female employee in the leg.

Police were able to interview the female victim at the hospital. She told investigators Miles said, "I will kill you, just give me all your money." Miles was seen on the store's surveillance video stuffing money into his pockets; then he ran off.

Investigators collected surveillance video from around the neighborhood and were able to track Miles's movements to and from the store that night.

Police also got a search warrant for Miles' apartment and said they found the clothes Miles was wearing during the shooting. His clothes and shoes were wet inside of a dryer, along with $87. All those items were collected as evidence.

Police also learned of Miles' prior convictions: one for a 1978 attempted robbery in Mississippi and another here in Pennsylvania in 1987 for attempted homicide and attempted robbery. Those convictions do not allow Miles to be in possession of a weapon.

Miles remains locked up in the Lackawanna County Prison without bail.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 3rd.
