SCRANTON, Pa. — A Lackawanna County man tried to flee a Scranton police interview room when told by detectives he was under arrest for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

Paul Rixford managed to get the interview room door open Friday before police took him to the ground, shackled him and took him in for booking and arraignment, according to a criminal complaint.

Rixford, 31, of Scranton, was questioned because he had been accused of sexually assaulting a child. He denied the allegations and said he wanted a lawyer.

Detectives told Rixford he was under arrested and Rixford started to back away from them. He tried to flee as a half-dozen officers tried to restrain him.

Rixford is facing counts including child rape and resisting arrest. He's jailed at the Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled April 26.
