MOOSIC -- New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter continues to bring the bucks to his team's Triple-A franchise with Monday night's game at PNC Field another sellout.
Jeter has been playing with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders since Saturday as he rehabilitates his injured ankle.
So far, Jeter has played three games with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders at PNC field in Moosic.
Team officials say his debut on Saturday brought in a record crowd of 10,000 fans, turning the 7,000 seat stadium into standing room only.
Monday night's game was another sellout.
“It`s exciting,” said Kristen Johnson from Mountain Top. “My son's name is Derek, after Derek Jeter, so he's thrilled to see him today. We’re big fans.”
Jeter is here rehabilitating his left ankle that he broke during the playoffs last October.
Since then, he has not been able to play with the New York Yankees.
Now his turn with his team's Triple-A franchise is bringing in fans from both near and far.
“Philadelphia, yeah, for Derek Jeter,” said Andrew Penning. “It's pretty awesome, seeing him in a small environment like this. It's pretty cool.”
“I love it. I'm very excited,” said Taylor Deemer from New Jersey. “I was actually just at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, so it's upsetting that he's not there, but it's nice to see him here.”
The RailRiders say Jeter's minor league visit is a major boost for ticket sales.
The three games he's played have all sold out; so did the two games before that over the Fourth of July holiday.
“Crowds ranging in the 8,000's, the 9,000's, and we had two hard sales where we couldn’t let anymore people in the ballpark at 10,000 on July 4th and Saturday, July 6th,” said Rob Crain, President and General Manager of the RailRiders.
“It's fantastic. It's not something that happens all the time. When they get someone like Jeter to come here, it's just great for the community. Everybody gets excited. It revamps the fan spirit and the team,” said Tim Rischaway of Dallas.
Team officials say Jeter is scheduled for an off day on Tuesday, but will play for the RailRiders again on Wednesday.
