PECKVILLE -- Those in Peckville looking to get their prescriptions filled will now have to find a new place to do business. Martin's Pharmacy on Main Street closed abruptly last Thursday.

Diane Konish worked for Martin's Pharmacy for 14 years. Last week, she came into work and learned from the owner the store would be closing in just four days.

"We came into work on Monday and he told all the employees he was closing on Thursday night," says Konish.

So with just a few days, Konish had to scramble to find a new job.

"We knew he wanted to retire," she says. "[The owner has] been telling us for a year and a half. But if I had to give a notice, it would have been two weeks. So only to be four days - it was kind of hard."

And just as hard for those looking to refill their prescriptions.

"I went there Thursday to get my last prescription filled and he said it was his last day in business," says Ken Santarelli of Peckville. "Find somewhere else to go."

While Martin's Pharmacy is closed, some people see it as an opportunity.

Dennis Dougherty owns Family Pharmacy just a few blocks away. He's been spending the past several days walking around town trying to lure Martin's old customers his way. And he's doing it in a very distinguishable style: dressed as a prescription bottle.

"I told my staff if they would make me a costume, I would wear it." says Dougherty. "Unfortunately, they did."

Dougherty has already hired several employees from Martin's, including Diane Konish because he says those major chain pharmacies can never beat that personal touch.

"All of our employees are part of the communities that they service," he explains. "I think it's important that they know their first names, they know their family, they know their dog or cat."
