SCRANTON -- Police in Scranton say they've solved a theft thanks to our report Saturday night.

Newswatch 16 showed surveillance video of someone swiping money from a bar and it was shared on social media. That led police to get an arrest warrant.

The owner of Bigsy's Bar says calls started coming in just minutes after our story. The video showed a young man taking money from the bar and a 10-year-old boy waiting outside. Police say parents of both young men have come forward.

The 10-year-old will not be charged, but police have issued an arrest warrant for Kareem Shelton. The 18-year-old apparently ran away after his family confronted him.

Police in Scranton say the man seen on the security video taking money from Bigsy's Bar in west Scranton is Kareem Shelton.

Detectives say in just a matter of moments, Shelton took over $3,000. The video also showed Shelton arrive at the bar on Layfayette Street with a 10-year-old boy who waited outside.

After the story was seen on Newswatch 16, the phone at the bar started ringing.

"One friend called and said oh I know him, gave him the name, somebody else called and gave us the number which is good," said Georgia Thomas from Bigsy's Bar.

Owner George Bidwell showed Newswatch 16 the video hoping the  parents would do the right thing and that is what happened.

The parents of the 10-year-old who was with Shelton brought him to the police station after seeing our story. He will not be charged.

According to court papers, Kareem Shelton's mother, Mary Lee Carter, turned over more than $900 of the money to the police after finding it in Shelton's bedroom.

"Good, I am glad. I am just happy that it's going to be over with, and he is going to get his money back. He deserves it. He is a good guy," added Thomas.

Newswatch 16 spoke with Carter earlier Sunday evening, she says she expects her son will turn himself in very soon, possibly Sunday night. She hopes the police will be lenient with him.
