SCRANTON -- It was a packed room on North Washington Avenue as Hillary Clinton's new campaign office opened in Scranton Tuesday evening.

The event comes as democrats are gearing up for their national convention in Philadelphia next week.

Patrick Joyce is a volunteer from Moosic and can't wait to see Clinton accept the democratic presidential nomination.

“We are so thrilled that we'll have our first woman candidate for president and somebody who have so much experience, so much knowledge, so much potential value,” said Joyce.

Clinton's political rival Donald Trump has been at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, which started Monday.

The convention got off to a rocky start as anti-Trump delegates protested on the convention floor.

Now, Trump's wife Melania is facing controversy over speculation her speech from Monday night was plagiarized from the one Michelle Obama gave at the 2008 Democratic Convention.

At Clinton's office opening, two democratic state lawmakers, Representative Sid Michaels Kavulich and Senator John Blake said looking at the Republican Convention is clear the party is in chaos.

“The republican convention should be focused on the presidential nominee, the vice presidential nominee and that should be it. But instead, it;s almost like these side shows that are taking place,” said Kavulich.

“I'm not one that provocative in my public commentary politically but I'm offended by Donald Trump's nomination. I think several others in the Republican Party are as well,” said Blake.

But Marcel Lisi, a member of the Lackawanna County GOP, disagrees.

“I'm seeing more positive feedback when it comes to Donald Trump and the Republican Convention in Cleveland,” said Lisi. “I think Donald Trump, he brings leadership to the table, he brings hope, he brings optimism and it's just something the American people haven't had in quite some time.”

Clinton campaign volunteers say she will keep the office space on North Washington Avenue in Scranton through the general election in November.
