Children taken to hospital after fire in Lackawanna County

The fire started Wednesday morning in Olyphant. A fire marshal believes a child playing with a butane lighter caught a couch on fire.

OLYPHANT, Pa. — Two children were taken to a hospital after a fire in  Lackawanna County.

Crews responded to a home on Walsh Plaza in Olyphant around 9 a.m.

Officials say a couch was on fire when they arrived.

One adult and two children were home at the time. The fire chief tells us the children inhaled smoke and were taken to a hospital.

Firefighters also took out a dog and about a dozen guinea pigs from the home.

A state police fire marshal said a couch caught fire while a child was playing with a "butane-style torch."
