A magical event to benefit library in Lackawanna County

Denny Corby is a magician, comedian, performer, and Lackawanna County native who is giving back to the community that he grew up in.

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. — "I had the privilege of seeing Denny perform last fall, and I loved his energy. I loved his performance, and I said, I think we can build on this and do something for the library," said Judy Detter, Project coordinator at Abington Community Library.

Detter tells Newswatch 16 that the library's next fundraiser is centered around "This guy."

Denny Corby is a magician, comedian, performer, and Lackawanna County native. The way he said he got into magic was by being "an awkward kid."

He's kind of a big deal, performing on shows like "Penn and Teller: Fool Us."

On Saturday, Denny is giving back to the community that he grew up in.

"I'm fortunate. I get to travel all over and get to do different fundraisers and events, also, but not often I get to do one so literally in my backyard, it's like a minute away from my house. It's amazing," said Corby.

Denny will be taking the stage at Abington Heights High School. He was a student there a few years back.

"One of my first shows was at the high school for the talent show, and now I'm back, baby, 20 years later," added Corby.

The show will showcase Denny's hilarious style, and ticket sales will go towards making the library more enjoyable for the community.

"All the proceeds raised from Denny's show, we're using to enhance our outdoor spaces, we have a children's area that could use a little love, we also have what's referred to as the secret garden out front of the library," said Detter.

If you want to be fooled, "A Magical Fundraiser with Denny Corby" is on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Abington Heights High School.
