"Police are here to stay": Meeting in Columbia County over concern of disbanding police department

The police department in Montour Township will remain patrolling the streets after township supervisors held a meeting over concerns of disbandment.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Pa. — A police department in Columbia County will continue its services after concerns about disbandment.

Residents came to a meeting held by the Montour Township Board of Supervisors on Thursday night near Bloomsburg. Many were concerned over the possibility of disbanding the Montour Township Police Department.

"And I'm telling you how I feel about this. Do not disband this police department. I don't want to see this happen. If I were a supervisor, I would leave it alone," said Dr. Glenn Neiderhiser of Montour Township.

Township supervisors assured the community that they have no plans to get rid of the department but do plan to replace a code and zoning officer who resigned at the meeting.
