Earth Day events on Bloomsburg University campus

Bloomsburg University students, faculty, and area businesses came together to celebrate Earth Day with an event on campus.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — In between classes, Bloomsburg University students gathered on the Academic Quad to celebrate our planet.

"It's just a nice day to be out here," Jeremiah Matias said. "It's good to learn about the Earth, make an impact."

Bloomsburg University's Green Campus Initiative and Paula Hopeck's event planning class organized this Earth Day event for the fourth year.

"The theme is 'There is No Restart'. We want to have this be in a game-like atmosphere to make learning about steps we can take for the environment and why it's important for environmentalism," said Paula Hopeck, Ph.D.

Area businesses, community groups, and campus organizations participated in the event.

"I'm with the group PRSSA and we're getting people together today to paint some pots and have a good time in honor of Earth Day," Celeste Flick said.

Each table had information or an activity for students to participate in.

"My friends are here. We met up and went to the different tables. I learned about solar panels and didn't expect to learn about that today, so that was fun," Matias said.

"$5 (for a succulent), money well spent. It's probably going to die in a week, but I'll try to keep it alive," Logan Raymon said.

With the theme of the event, "There is No Restart,' students were able to level up their eco-friendly habits and even win some prizes.
