Collecting Christmas cards from around the world

A senior living facility is collecting Christmas cards from all 50 states and as many countries as possible.

NESQUEHONING, Pa. — Making Christmas ornaments has become a standard activity during December at Maple Shade Meadows Senior Living, but employees hope to spice up the holiday with a new tradition.

This year, the facility is collecting Christmas cards for its residents, looking for cards from all 50 states and as many countries as possible.

Activities director Felicia Porambo came up with the idea. She says with so many people sending Christmas cards these days, she thought it would be nice to see just how many the residents here can receive.

According to their map, they have gotten quite a few so far.

"They think it's the greatest thing. They get a kick out of all the cards, and we read all the cards, and they're amazed at where we're getting some of the cards from and some of the family that's sending cards from far away," Porambo said.

The home has received plenty of cards from Pennsylvania, but they're missing quite a few states, and they say that's where you come in to help.

"We will post your cards and put a pin in the map. We already got cards from California, Washington, Oregon, Texas. There are the big, highlighted ones so far, so feel free to send us a card."

The residents are returning the favor, choosing to write and send Christmas cards of their own to our soldiers.

The residents are grateful that people they don't know are thinking about them this holiday season.

"I hope that they realize it meant a lot to us because they have so much to think about, and they would think about doing something like that, take the time to do it, and it's such a nice gesture," said resident Jane Brennan.

The personal care come hopes to continue the tradition for years to come.

Thanks everyone…keep them coming!
