WILKES-BARRE -- A fundraiser for a special little girl was held this Sunday in Luzerne County.
Little Aaliyah Tencza is about six months old. She was born prematurely and has a cleft palate and other physical impairments.
Vendors came together to raise money for Aaliyah to help pay for her medical equipment and care.
According to organizers, they raised $1,200 at the event in Wilkes-Barre.
In Carbon County, it was a trip back in time for a lesson on our area's coal mining history.
The sixth annual Coal Miners Heritage Festival was underway in Lansford.
Volunteers dressed in period clothing demonstrated what life was like back in the 1800s when the #9 Coal Mine was in operation.
"The #9 Coal Mine was opened in 1855 and operated continuously until 1972. Today it has been reopened by volunteers and it's used as a tourist coal mine, "said Dale Freudenberger.
Organizers say the #9 Coal Mine is also the world's oldest continuously-operated coal mine.
The #9 Coal Mine and Museum is open year round in Carbon County.
