Marigold | 16 To The Rescue

In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a cat who was abandoned in an apartment with no food or water. Rescue workers want to make sure that never happens again.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Marigold is very food-motivated, so a little afternoon snack in exchange for smiling for the camera was a no-brainer. That's because there was a time when Marigold did not have any, and there was a time when she was much smaller than this.

"She had basically been a skeleton at four pounds. And now she's over eight pounds, and she's a happy, healthy girl waiting for her new forever home," said Donna Bohn, a worker with NEPA Pet Fund and Rescue.

That is why rescue workers chose to feature Marigold for this week's 16 To The Rescue. She was left behind in an apartment by her previous owners. They moved away and locked her inside with no food or water. Rescue workers aren't even really sure how long she was like that, but she was rescued by NEPA Pet Fund and Rescue over the summer.

"By the time she was discovered, she was in very poor condition. She was malnourished, dehydrated. Her claws were injured from trying to scratch her way out. With a lot of veterinary care, food, and love, she is now fully recovered," Bohn said.

And she's ready to be adopted. Marigold is happily adjusting in her foster home in Mountain Top. Rescue workers do not know exactly how old Marigold is, but she is young, probably about a year or two. She does not play much with toys and is more of a lap cat, but would do well in any home, whether it's with kids, an older couple, a quiet or loud home.

"She's a very affectionate, loving girl. She gets along well with my other cats, but it took her a very long time to acclimate. So, if she does go to a home with other cats, they're going to need to be patient with her," Bohn said.

But rescue workers say she would be happy being the only cat in the home, too. And Marigold likes attention from everyone, especially if it means lots of petting.

"She's a princess. She deserves a family who is going to love her and never be abandoned again."
