Cardi | 16 To The Rescue

In this week's 16 To The Recue we meet a 5-year-old pit bull/mix who rescue workers believe is only getting overlooked because of her breed.

SCRANTON, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a dog living at an animal shelter in Scranton, who rescue workers say is likely only getting overlooked because of her breed.

"We've been having such success with 16 To The Rescue. It's time for this girl to get her home. She's been here way too long," said Brian Donahue, Friends with Paws Pet Rescue.

Two years too long, to be exact. Cardi is a 5-year-old pit bull/mix living at Friends with Paws Pet Rescue in Scranton. Cardi was found in the attic of a home with no food or water for several days.

"When she came to us, she was skin and bones. Her hair was falling out. She was in absolute terrible shape," said Donahue.

Now, two years later, Cardi is still available for adoption, and rescue workers are desperate to change that. They say they think she mostly gets overlooked because of her breed; it's hard to adopt out a pit bull/mix. But they just know if she's given the chance, she'll quickly prove just how much of a love bug she is.

"Be prepared for some loving and hugging and licking your face and kissing. She's like a freight train; she just runs at you, and she wants to be on you. She's just a sweetheart," Donahue said.

Cardi is very dog-selective and is hit or miss with cats, so she would need to go to a home with no other pets. But she would do great with any humans, including kids.

"Maybe someone that works from home, someone that's home a lot, a young, energetic couple because she loves to walk. She loves to be around. And just do people things. She's like a person," Donahue said.

Rescue workers at Friends with Paws say they know the perfect match is out there for Cardi, and they can't wait for her to find it.

"Unbelievably lucky. She's just a big, big love bug. Lick your face off, play catch all day, give her treats. You're going to see, she's really a sweetheart," said Donahue.
