Blue at Blue Chip | 16 To The Rescue

In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a 2-year-old Chihuahua/mix who is looking for a new home.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a 2-year-old Chihuahua mix who is looking for a new home because his previous owner recently passed away.

"He's had a lot of changes, and it's really hard for Chihuahuas to handle big changes like this. He's really not a hard dog; he just needs a few days of serious patience, and then he turns into the best dog," said Emma Ripka, Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge.

Rescue workers at the shelter in Luzerne County know all of this has been a lot for Blue but are so proud of the way he is handling it.

"I think he's a typical Chihuahua. He was sheltered, most likely. He has a lot of fears. He's afraid of new people, new environments. It takes him a few days to warm up. Due to his past adoption, we are requiring a fenced-in yard because of his fears during the first few days."

Blue has only been at Blue Chip near Dallas for a few weeks. He was briefly adopted, but because he was so spooked that first day, he got out of the front door, and with no fenced yard, both the family and rescue workers decided it was not the right fit.

"He definitely prefers women. He is super sweet once he knows you. He is a complete Velcro dog. He loves playing with other dogs; it also takes him a few days to warm up, but once he warms up, it doesn't matter what their size is; he will play with them. He's fine with cats," said Ripka.

Rescue workers say Blue should go to a home with adults, no kids, so it can be a single person or a couple. It might take him a little longer to warm up to a man, but once he does, they say Blue has so much love to give and has the funniest personality.

"I can't do anything in the office. There is another volunteer who can't do anything in the office without him on their lap, or he gets on the desk with us. He's just always near you. I can be typing on the computer, and he will come onto my lap and just hold my fingers in his mouth so that I can't type. So, he's definitely a quirky little guy but a huge fun personality, so I think any home that takes him will really enjoy him because he is a really fun dog," Ripka said.
