UNIVERSITY PARK — A residence hall on Penn State’s main campus was put on lockdown for about four hours Sunday evening after a threat directed at students.

Penn State reported that the verbal threat of violence came from a person in the Harrisburg area. It was directed at two students in Hamilton Hall, which is located in the West Halls complex.

The lockdown was put in place early Sunday evening. It was lifted around 9 p.m. after state police arrested the suspect.

According to an updated news release from Penn State, University Police responded to a call from state police that a father in a dispute with his family had threatened to harm his children. The children are students at Penn State’s University Park campus. They are among more than 500 students who live in Hamilton Hall.

Students in Hamilton Hall were asked to stay in their rooms and lock their doors while police searched for the suspect.
