UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State football fans are most likely counting down the days until the team's home opener against Kent State on Saturday, but if you're one of the thousands of people heading out to Beaver Stadium to catch the game in person, you may want to get there early.

There are some new security guidelines at Beaver Stadium. People attending the game will now have to empty their pockets so they can be inspected by a metal detector wand. While this is common in many places, it's new to Penn State.

Newswatch 16 spoke with Penn State football fans about the new security policy. We did not find anyone who disagreed with it.

"I don't think it's that big of a deal," said Terry Barner of Lock Haven. "I mean, as long as it keeps everyone safe. It's not that big of a hassle just to have a wand put over you."

"It's just something with the way that the world is to keep us safer. If it's going to take us a couple of extra minutes to get through the gates, I'm OK with it," said Schuyler Frey of Montoursville.

"You never know, and it's better to be safe, and that's not so invasive," said Sue Morris of Lock Haven,

This is not the first time Penn State University has beefed up security at Beaver Stadium. In 2013, the school implemented a policy banning most bags from the stadium.

Penn State's home opener is at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Beaver Stadium.
