LEWISBURG -- Some students from Lewisburg High School are getting into the holiday spirit by spreading some cheer in downtown Lewisburg. The students painted the windows of more than a dozen businesses Tuesday.

Dominic Cozza is a senior at Lewisburg High School and spent part of his day painting a candy cane on the window of Bull Run Tap House in Lewisburg. The Bull Run is one of 18 businesses participating in the high school's window painting program.

"Bring festivity to the town. It's kind of a good way for the town to get involved and really get in the Christmas spirit because Christmas is right around the corner," Cozza said.

More than 60 students from Lewisburg High School's AP and National Honor Society Art Programs painted the windows of downtown Lewisburg businesses. All of the storefronts had different themes, like snowmen, holly, and reindeer. Nola Dollard put the finishing touches on Rudolph.

"I think it's really cool that the school has such a close relationship with the community and that we get the opportunity to express our artistic abilities through painting on the windows," Dollard said.

"The tie with the students being here participating in this, being that the school is going to be moving out of the community next year, it's great that we can still have that community involvement," teacher Bryce Snyder said.

18 different business had their windows painted and the store managers tell Newswatch 16 they enjoy seeing the decorations as much as the students enjoy painting them.

"The students do a beautiful, beautiful job and it gives us a chance to interact with the kids and it makes the entire town look festive," Purity Candy Manager Sue Weaver said.

Both the students and the business managers say this is one holiday tradition they hope will continue for a long time.
