SHAWNEE AREA SKI RESORT -- Farmers in the Poconos are gearing up for a festival you can smell a mile away: the Pocono Garlic Festival.

At the Josie Porter farm, just outside Stroudsburg, farmers are busy getting their baskets of garlic ready for the Pocono Garlic Festival. The owner of the farm is excited at how much garlic her farm produced.

"Let me tell you, we got all this garlic going, three different kinds. We got Spanish Roja, German White and German Red," said Heidi Secord.

Secord says the Pocono Garlic Festival is a big deal for her six-acre farm which also grows tomatoes and other produce.

"This is huge for us. It's a chance for us to be able to market a big crop that we grow here on the farm and gives us a chance to showcase what we're doing," Secord said.

The Josie Porter farm will be setting up shop at Shawnee Area Ski Resort.  They'll be joining a group of 60 other vendors at the festival and each one will be featuring garlic in some way."

One of the garlicy features at this garlic festival is garlic ice cream.

"There's honey in it, minced garlic, and they turn it into ice cream," explained Nick Parashos.

The sweet and smelly ice cream is a popular seller. Last year they sold out the first day of the two-day festival, so this year they doubled their batch.

"We bring around 50 pounds of ice cream this year. We doubled it and we have more if we need it," Parashos said.

But one thing guests won't need are breath mints, because what's the use when everything sold there is made with garlic.

The festival is Saturday and Sunday at Shawnee Mountain Ski Resort near Marshalls Creek.
