HAMILTON TOWNSHIP -- National Guard troops unloaded water Wednesday morning at the Communications Center in Monroe County. The water is for communities in the Poconos hit hard by Sandy.

Many are struggling to clean up and deal with power outages.

"It's the worst storm I've ever seen, the worst and I'm 77 years old, so," said Gus Bauer who was helping a friend who lost several trees on his Hamilton Township property.

Some of the supplies delivered by the National Guard are for people in the borough of Delaware Water Gap, where more than 700 people are without power and water.

"The power went out, our tank was full, now the tank is empty because we have no power to get the well up and running to fill the tank," said borough superintendent Robert Gallagher.

Folks are pumping water from of nearby Cherry Creek for to flush their toilets and they are picking up cases of water from town hall. Each household gets one case a day.

"No water, no electric and now she just told us November 7 so we got nothing, I'm going to a friend's house just to use showers and toilets and that's it. We've got nothing else," said Nick Delligatti, who was picking up water Wednesday.

Although things are tough in Delware Water Gap, the borough superintendent and head of the emergency management agency said he and others are grateful for the help from the National Guard.

"Great to know there's somebody out there to help us," said Gallagher.

National Guard troops said they expect to be busy dropping off supplies throughout this part of the state through at least next week.
