POCONO SUMMIT -- Police in Monroe County we're kept busy this weekend, and it wasn't just because of the big race at the Pocono Speedway.
On Saturday night shortly after 10 p.m. police responded to Nadine Boulevard in Stillwater Lakes.
Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Harry Lewis said, a 20-year-old man broke into a home.
The home however, is one the man knew inside and out.
It was his mother's.
"She wanted to report a theft or an ongoing theft where things were missing out of her house and a brother's bedroom which was locked securely, and he had no right being in," Chief Lewis said.
Police identified the suspect as Kenneth Botke.
Botke was arrested in July after police said he stole his brother's car during his grandmother's funeral.
He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
Authorities said when an officer was dispatched to Nadine Drive, he was able to arrest Botke immediately.
Officials said that Botke was handcuffed and placed in the rear of a marked police cruiser.
Police said while they were obtaining statements from the victim, Botke was able to manipulate his handcuffs and enter the drivers area of the police cruiser through a partition.
Police said Botke drove a short distance before abandoning the vehicle a few blocks away.
Officials said Botke fled on foot with a shotgun.
Authorities said the vehicle was found on Flag Court in Pocono Summit.
Botke's runaway prompted a search throughout the area for several hours.
"You don't do that. There's going to be too many cops on you. You don't steal a police car," said Stillwater Lakes resident, Anthony Brown.
On Sunday morning police resumed their search for Botke.
Officials said Botke was taken into custody at 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of Vacation Lane and Holiday Drive in Stillwater Lakes.
Chief Lewis said the police department was assisted by state police.
Lewis said they were able to use the state police helicopter that was transporting Governor Corbett to the "Go Bowling 400" at the Pocono Raceway.
"Their pilots went to the area, provided ariel surveillance at the same time Mr.Botke was engaged in, right in the middle of a carjacking," Chief Lewis said.
Police said they were able to confront Botke who was armed with two BB guns.
Authorities said the two hostages were able to run to safety.
Police said they used a taser on Botke in an attempt to bring him into custody.
Botke was taken to Pocono Medical Center with minor injuries.
Chief Lewis said the shotgun was recovered after bringing Botke into custody.
Botke faces the following charges: Kidnapping, Robbery of a Motor Vehicle, Burlgary, Terroristic Threats and False Imprisonment.
Chief Lewis said arrests are pending in this investigation. Officials believe people may have assisted Botke while he was on the run.
