EAST STROUDSBURG – Volunteers rushed about in between the rain drops filling cars with holiday feasts at East Stroudsburg’s Salvation Army. They’re helping hundreds of families put food on their tables for Christmas.

"I really enjoy helping people and getting to do all this is a lot of fun, I think it's really meaningful,” said Notre Dame High School Junior Penelope Fossa.

Kyle Henley came from New Jersey to pick up his brother from college at ESU and had some extra time on his hands so he came here to lend a hand on a rather dreary day. A day only these ducks were enjoying.

"It's been pretty fun, it's not as bad as anyone might think it is, helping out other people and it's very, it feels good,” said Henley.

Each family received a ham, salmon, veggies, yams, cranberries and then some other staples, too.

“We're able to provide them with a couple more meals and make their dollars stretch to make the light bill, oil bill,” said food pantry and volunteer director Jill Brink.

To give you an idea of just how many families the Salvation Army is helping this Christmas, take a look at the line of cars down Washington Street.

800 families in total got help. That’s up a little bit from last year thanks to the help of people living right here in Monroe County.

"We're very very blessed to have the support of the community. There are lots who have done food drives for us,” said Brink.

Helping carry out the true meaning of Christmas one grocery bag at a time.

"It's great because all of these people wouldn't be able to have it without this and the fact that we're able to help them is really good,” said Notre Dame High School Junior Nicolas Diolosa.
