WILLIAMSPORT -- Incumbent Williamsport Mayor Gabriel Campana won the Republican nomination Tuesday with about 70 percent of the vote.

"We felt very optimistic. We knocked on over 1,500 doors. We got a lot of good feedback from the public after doing that," Campana said.

Campana met with some of his supporters Tuesday night at The Brickyard, a bar and restaurant on Pine Street in the city.

The mayor ran against City Council President Bill Hall for the Republican seat in this election.

With a win fresh on his mind, Mayor Campana said he's focused on winning the general election in the fall.

"We ran on our record. There is more work to do. We won this race, but there is one more in the fall. We are going to continue to lead this city," Campana said.

Campana will go up against his Democratic challenger Emily Gale in the general election.
