WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- A search is underway in Wilkes-Barre for a would-be intruder cut by a machete.

We found police on 100 block of North Washington Street inspecting the weapon.

Officers tell us a man tried breaking into a home around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

A witness who wanted to remain anonymous tells Newswatch 16 a woman wielding the machete approached the man and the two struggled.

"She came at him with a machete saying, 'You trying to break into my house.' He put his hands up. She moved towards him. He grabbed the blade," said the witness. "He said, 'I'm just trying to get the knife away from her.' They fell to the ground. Then he got the knife away from her by the blade and he was bleeding really bad."

The woman appears to have been injured as well.

Police in Wilkes-Barre say they are looking for a white male with long gray hair, wearing a black t-shirt and black pants who was last seen heading toward River Street with his hand wrapped in a white t-shirt.
