'This is the largest drug bust in the city' - Drug raid in Wilkes-Barre

Officials say it's the biggest drug bust in the city's history.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — "At 10 Minter Place, 100 grams of cocaine, tens of thousands of dollars, and 1000 pills of Fentanyl," said Joseph Coffay, Wilkes-Barre Police Chief.

Wilkes-Barre's police chief ran down the laundry list of confiscated items from what officials call the biggest drug bust in the Diamond City's history.

It was just after 6 a.m. Wednesday when officers banged on the doors of four homes in the city, three in south Wilkes-Barre alone.

What they seized were large amounts of cash and drugs, at least two weapons.

In total, authorities say more than a million dollars in cocaine and the powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl are off the streets.

Three men, all from Wilkes-Barre, were arrested and arraigned on federal charges.

Police say the suspects were all part of an organized ring of drug dealers.

The ring has been under investigation for the past eight months.

"This is the largest drug bust in the city of Wilkes-Barre. One million dollars taken off the streets. Besides the drugs that were taken off, it was the money that was used for these sales, and also you got a couple of firearms," said Mayor George Brown. "So Wilkes-Barre city police department, in partnership with other departments, they brought it home today."

Authorities say if convicted of the federal charges they face, two of the three suspects could face life in prison.
