Lottery Ticket Worth Nearly $2 Million Sold in Luzerne County

DURYEA, Pa. — A lottery ticket worth nearly $2 million was sold last week in Luzerne County.

DURYEA, Pa. -- A lottery ticket worth nearly $2 million was sold last week in Luzerne County.

A jackpot-winning Pennsylvania Lottery Match 6 Lotto ticket worth $1.95 million from the Saturday, January 5, drawing was sold at Weis Markets in Duryea.

The ticket matched all six winning numbers -- 4, 7, 8, 19, 23, 33 -- to win the $1.95 million jackpot.

Outside the Weis in Duryea, all appears to be normal, but once you step inside there is lots of excitement.

"Oh, yeah. because most of the time, it's not here. That's usually what happens, but somebody got lucky," said Douglas Hartzog.

We don't know who the winner is yet, but the people we spoke with say they hope it is somebody in the community.

"I just walked into the store and see the cameras. Hey, somebody, I hope, in Duryea won. Congratulations!" said Jill Thomas.

"I think that's exciting. It's somebody local, so that's really great," Maurita Bartnikowski said.

Customers we spoke with wish the winning ticket was theirs.

"Because this is where I usually buy my lottery tickets if I buy them," Bartnikowski said.

Now that this store has sold such a big winner, shoppers say they want to come in and play the lottery more often.

I think it's worth the money if you don't go broke," Hartzog said.

The Weis store in Duryea will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

The winner has a year to claim the prize.

The jackpot had been rolling for more than one month.
