WILKES-BARRE -- A well-known radio personality who used to work in television and the performing arts in Luzerne County was charged Wednesday with taking advantage of unemployment benefits.

Paperwork filed by county detectives inside the Luzerne County Courthouse says Mark Thomas of Wilkes-Barre received more than $25,000 Dollars in unemployment compensation while he was working two different jobs.

Thomas turned himself in at an arraignment at a district magistrate's office in Wilkes-Barre.

Detectives say Thomas filed for unemployment in 2010 and received more than $25,000 in benefits through 2011. That's when unemployment workers started an investigation into possible fraud.

Detectives say while Thomas was collecting unemployment, he was also working at a car dealership and at Entercom Radio in Pittston.

He's listed on Entercom's website as an on-air DJ at The Mountain 102.3 FM. Officials there have not returned calls to see if he is still working.

Officials at F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts say Thomas used to be the program director there.

He also worked as a vice president at WVIA-TV for more than eight years.

Thomas was released on bail.
