SCRANTON -- Downtown Scranton is going pink for the 24th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Volunteers decorated Courthouse Square with pink ribbons Monday morning ahead of the 5k on Saturday.

Money raised goes towards breast cancer education and research.

"We want to show the survivors how much we care about them and also to raise awareness about a disease that strikes one woman every two minutes," said Susan G. Komen NEPA Executive Director Dolly Woody.

Organizers said the pink ribbons around Courthouse Square will remain up until October which is breast cancer awareness month.

WNEP-TV is a proud media sponsor of the race and Newswatch 16's Mindi Ramsey and Jon Meyer will host the Race for the Cure beginning Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Scranton.
