The man who called Gertrude Hawk, mom and ran the Dunmore-based chocolate business for decades, has died.

According to published reports, Elmer Hawk Jr. passed away Friday after an illness at the age of 89.

Hawk was the longtime CEO of the candy maker.

His mother, Gertrude, started the business in the 1930's, making chocolates in the kitchen of her home.

Elmer Hawk joined the business after World War II, and according to the company website, his son David took over for him.

In addition to family, Hawk leaves behind a confectionery legacy with 75 stores throughout the tri-state area.
