COVINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The coroner confirmed one person is dead after a bus crash on Interstate 380 in Lackawanna County.

The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday on I-380 in Covington Township near the Daleville exit.

The bus went off the road in the southbound lanes and was leaning on its side.

According to the Lackawanna County coroner, a 33-year-old woman from California is dead.

The Lackawanna County coroner believes the bus was filled with Cornell University students, going from Ithaca to New York City, and the woman killed might have been a Cornell University student.

Investigators say about a dozen people were on the bus when it crashed near Moscow.

Initial reports say there were multiple people hurt in the crash. It's unclear how badly they were hurt. At least one of the victims was flown to the hospital.

State police are looking into what caused the crash.

Both lanes of I-380 were closed for about four hours. It reopened just before 3 a.m. on Monday.
