BERWICK -- Folks in part of Columbia County celebrated their own contribution to history Sunday with a special inaugural event.
The Berwick Stuart Tank Committee organized these "Weekend at Stuie's" celebrations to show off their Stuart Light Tank and honor the many folks who built the tanks here in Berwick and rode them into battle during World War II.
Workers at the American Car and Foundry Factory at the industrial park built 15,000 Stuart Light Tanks for combat in Europe.
Now with their own "Stuie" back in the borough, the committee, veterans and residents are celebrating their hard work and history behind it.
"A lot of the young folks don't know anything about what happened here during World War II and it's our mission to not only honor all of those folks but to keep that history alive,” said Columbia County Commissioner David Kovach.
Sunday’s inaugural "Weekend at Stuie's" featured 1940s era music, World War II re-enactments, and various military-related vendors and groups here in Columbia County.
