Hours-long standoff ends peacefully in Jim Thorpe

An hours-long standoff has come to an end in Carbon County. A woman peacefully surrendered early Monday morning.

JIM THORPE, Pa. — A standoff with police in Jim Thorpe came to an end Monday morning

It started around 6 p.m. Sunday on Center Avenue. It finally ended around 1 a.m. Monday.

"Just walk toward me, toward the sound of my voice. There you go. Now turn around a little closer; come on, there you go. Turn around. Face me, hang on right there," said police, trying to coax a woman out of her home.

That is the way the ordeal ended early Monday morning.

For some reason, a woman barricaded herself in a home on Center Avenue in Jim Thorpe and refused to leave.

Her name was not released.

Police also have not said what led to the standoff.

State police, Jim Thorpe police, and the Carbon County district attorney's office were all there, hoping to bring the standoff to a peaceful end.

No one was hurt.

The woman was handcuffed and taken away in an ambulance.

Police have not said what charges will be filed.
