YORK -- Tom Wolf is the projected winner in the race for governor of Pennsylvania.

Wolf beat out Republican incumbent Tom Corbett.

For the first time in modern state history, an incumbent governor has gone down to defeat, breaking a streak that stretched back to the 1950s of eight years of Democratic governors followed by eight years of Republican governors.

Wolf, a York County native, is the CEO of a multi-million dollar family-owned cabinet company in York, but is no stranger to public sector.

He served Pennsylvania for two Democratic governors, including being named Secretary of Revenue by Governor Ed Rendell in 2007.

The celebrating at the York County Fairgrounds started early as the polls showed that Wolf would make history by unseating an incumbent governor.

Supporters came out in droves and cheered as Wolf and his family drove into the Utz Arena at the York County Fairgrounds in his now famous Jeep.

During his acceptance speech, Wolf promised to make good on his campaign platforms, including education and job creation.

"We fund our education system fairly and we've got to make sure that we raise the money that we use to fund our education system fairly. We're not burdening property tax payers. We have got to do a better job. That's the first thing. The second thing: we've got to make sure we are creating good jobs here in Pennsylvania," Wolf said.

At the start of his victory speech, Wolf thanked Governor Tom Corbett for the campaign that he ran. He thanked all of his supporters.

The victory speech did not go off without a hitch, however. There were some hecklers in the crowd that had to be escorted out of the arena.

Tom Wolf, the governor-elect, will head to Harrisburg in January.
