WILKES-BARRE – Authorities in Luzerne County said they are investigating the death of an infant who died three days after she was taken to the hospital.

According to search warrants filed on Wednesday, detectives are seeking medical records from three hospitals and Luzerne County Children and Youth Services for 7-month-old Cecilia Nin.

The court documents said the baby was brought to Geisinger Wyoming Valley near Wilkes-Barre on Jan. 4 and was immediately flown to Geisinger near Danville.

Police said the girl died three days later and doctors determined that Nin suffered a fractured skull and several fractured ribs.

Court documents said the girl’s mother, Kareliz Nin, was questioned and told investigators that her daughter appeared to have a seizure and may have recently fallen off of a couch and hit a marble table.

Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis told Newswatch 16 that a coroner is waiting for test results before determining if the baby’s death was criminal or accidental.

Richard Zeszotarski manages the apartment building that the girl lived in, on South Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre, and said he hasn’t seen the mother or 3-year-old sister since detectives started investigating.

"The police were here, she was parked out front in the car that other people were driving; I think her sister. They were told they couldn't come into the apartment until they were done investigating,” said Zeszotarski. "Every now and again she would have a party in her apartment on a Friday night that would go kind of late, which I found kind of odd because she has two young kids."
