WILLIAMSPORT -- The caregiver for a 4 year-old girl who died in a hot car last month in Williamsport was charged Thursday afternoon with involuntary manslaughter and other charges.

Police said Brittany Borgess left Samaria Motyka in a car for hours on a 97-degree day.

Brittany Borgess from South Williamsport couldn't hold back the tears as she was escorted out of her arraignment at a magistrate's office on West Fourth Street in Williamsport on Thursday.

Borgess is charged with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person and leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle.

Police say she left 4-year-old Samaria Motyka in a locked car for several hours on July 22. The child died at a hospital. Court papers show her body temperature was 110 degrees.

According to the affidavit, Borgess' boyfriend is the father of the 4-year-old girl.

The morning of the incident, Borgess had her 2-year-old son along with Motyka in the vehicle. Borgess told police she was running late to work when she dropped off her 2 year old at day care.

Instead of dropping Samaria off at a different day care in South Williamsport, she drove straight to work and parked her car in a lot off of West Fourth Street in Williamsport.

After work around 3:30 p.m., Borgess found the girl on the floor of the front passenger side of the vehicle.

Temperatures reached about 97 degrees that day. According to court papers, the temperature inside the vehicle likely reached 120 degrees or higher.

Borgess told police she had forgotten the kids in the past and was upset that day over an upcoming bridal shower.

She's locked up in Lycoming County.
