LUZERNE COUNTY -- An emergency drill at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport simulated a catastrophe.

The drill took place Saturday morning and involved emergency responders from several communities.

Federal authorities require the airport to hold this type of exercise every three years.

Some people played roles of injured passengers, and a plane was even set on fire.

"This gives us, with observers, an opportunity to exercise that plan, see where some of the strengths, weaknesses are," said airport director Barry Centini.

After the live disaster drill three years ago, the airport director says there were concerns about medical response and even some communication glitches.

He says Saturday's drill demonstrated improvement in those areas.
