COVID-19 update: State adds more than 5,000 new cases

The Department of Health confirms 44 new deaths in Pennsylvania related to the coronavirus.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — The Pennsylvania Department of Health lists 5,198 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 1,370,247 on Friday, September 17.

There were 44 new deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry.

The statewide total of deaths attributed to COVID-19 is 28,812, according to the department.

Unvaccinated Pennsylvanians account for 97 percent of COVID deaths, 95% of COVID hospitalizations, and 94% of cases overall.
