From buying to prepping, grilling to preserving, a statewide campaign is underway that's all about celebrating Pennsylvania produce. August is PA Produce Month. Among the top sellers: corn, squash, zucchini and peppers.

Newswatch 16's Ryan Leckey stopped by Gerrity's Supermarkets along Meadow Avenue in Scranton on Thursday to scope out some of the most popular produce picks this month and cook up some creative recipe ideas.

Many supermarkets, including Gerrity's, carry locally grown produce. You can also find great PA produce at area Famer's Markets. To find one near you, head to this link!

According to Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing & Research: agriculture is the state's largest industry. "PA produce is not transported thousands of miles in fossil fuel producing trucks; it is grown by nearby family farmers in a state that is home to more than 1,000 farm markets and community farmers’ markets, many of which participate in PA Produce Month promotions with special events or offers. For every $100 spent at a farmers market, $62 stays in the local economy, and $99 stays in state."
