The advisory comes after a water main broke Thursday afternoon along Grampian Street. The main has been fixed and water service has been restored but until tests are completed, people living in the homes affected by the break are urged to boil their water before using it.
According to the water authority, the affected areas of Williamsport are:
The area from Walnut Street from Glenwood Avenue North and West including Hollywood Circle, Vallamont Drive NW, Rural Avenue West of Fifth Avenue, First Avenue and Second Avenue North of Rural Avenue, Louisa Street from Grier to Cemetery Streets; the area north of Vallamont Drive, Highland Terrace; and Grampian Boulevard and Charlotte Street East to Baldwin Street.
Customers in the affected service area are advised to not to drink the water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.
The Williamsport Municipal Water Authority expects the boil water advisory to be in effect for at least 24 hours.
