A family in Susquehanna County lost their home when flames ripped through the place near Laceyville.

An empty shell is all that remains of a home that once stood on a hill in the rural area near Laceyville. Fire broke out around 9 a.m. Saturday in the part of Susquehanna County, destroying the house and everything inside.

"Just how fast it's gone, can't really believe it," said Allen Mosher. "It's a lot of memories." Mosher grew up in the house, owned by his parents. He said his parents were away for the weekend and weren't home when the fire broke out.

The family's four dogs were inside. Max, their golden retriever, seemed to be the only one who got out.

"Three shih tzus," said Mosher. "Unless they're hiding somewhere, but I don't think so."

Three fire companies responded to the blaze, which broke out around 9 a.m. Saturday. When crews arrived on scene, the house was consumed in flames.

"There was no way we could make an interior attack. We had to do everything from a defensive mode," said Good Will Fire Company Fire Chief Scott Fisher. "But unfortunately, there wasn't a lot we could do. The whole front side was already burnt through when we got here, it had already burnt through."

The American Red Cross was contacted and an investigation into how the fire started is underway.

Mosher said his parents do have insurance on the house, but nothing can replace what was lost. "You never think it's going to be you, but just goes to show," said Fisher.

A state police fire marshal is expected to be on scene Sunday.
