Hundreds of families will be able to have Easter dinner thanks to churches throughout Susquehanna County. Volunteers passed out bags full of food Wednesday to more people in need of help than ever before.
One by one volunteers helped carry bags full of food for those picking up the goods for a full Easter meal here at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Montrose.
Sheri Durbin of Hop Bottom said her family will be very happy on Sunday.
"They come out and do what they have to do and for those who can't always afford everything they're here to help and I'm very grateful," said Durbin.
This year, all organizers and volunteers know the need is great. Two extra locations had to be added for distrubution. One in Montrose plus New Milford and Forest City.
"Last year we served 600 individuals and families," said Father Charles Cesaretti. "This year we're going to serve a little over 700. It's been a bad year."
Montrose Area High School Key Club members pitched in. to help. They helped carry the bag full of food and a fresh man to the cars of those getting donations.
"It's a good feeling when you take the stuff out to their car and you can see they're really grateful that you were here to do this and everyone that did the preparation to get these bags together," said Montrose Area Sophomore Keenan Small.
The items in the bags the bread, candy, stuffing and more all come from donations collected by different churches throughout the county, making sure people have a happy Easter.
"The churches in Susquehanna County are really one of the safety nets in the county so for the churches, this is very important," added Fr. Cesaretti.
And for those getting the help it's important too that so many in the community care.
