A man lost his pets Monday when the home he was renting went up in flames.
Crews were called to the home on Route 104 in Penns Creek about 12:30 p.m. to find the house full of flames.
The fire chief said the fire may have started in the rear of the two-story home and spread quickly. The house was gutted.
The man who lived there wasn't home. His dog and two cats did not survive.
A passerby tried to help. "I went over to the garage door and the smoke was so think I couldn't walk in there but I crawled in a little bit but the smoke was so think I could go in a couple of feet and I couldn't get the dog," said Carla Sulouff.
There is no word yet what sparked the fire.
