The long Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer, had many people at Shikellamy State Park in Northumberland County excited.
Many people, including the Reece family, enjoyed their first sail of the year on the park's Lake Augusta.
"It's really an enjoyable experience. I kept it away for the winter and now I have a chance to get it out and make sure everything is working good," said Mike Reece of Watsontown. "I'm going to get the skis out and pull the tube behind for the kids. And bounce them around across the water."
"We haven't had much of this, this year and we are just excited that we are able to have a day like today. We thought it was going to rain and it looks like a beautiful day," added Bert Reece.
Back on land many took a stab at grilling. Dan Baker of Halifax said the annual Memorial Day barbeque has turned into a family reunion. "We all just get together and just about every holiday and it's a real special time," said Baker.
Most people said they wanted to spent the day with family and friends, but others said they wanted to use this time for reflection.
"Remembering the veterans and having fun on a gorgeous weekend," said Travis Kratzer of Liverpool.
