Today is my birthday, and what a day it was!! My day began at 7:30am, and wrapped up around 8:30pm. What happened in those 13 hours was exciting, stressful, fun, and rewarding. After enjoying some Southern grits for breakfast (for those of you that don't know what grits are: they are like cream of wheat, but with salt, butter, and some Southern goodness all mashed together), the crew(Jon Meyer, Corey Burns, Mike Cholko, and myself) headed over to the beautiful JW Marriot resort to pick up our media credentials. We then headed over to our first Penn State football practice where I got my first taste of the Florida sunshine! During practice the weather was 65 degrees, slightly windy and beautifully sunny!! I think that my pale, Irish skin might be showing a little color! After filming some of practice we headed to TGI Friday's for my birthday lunch. It was surprisingly not crowded and we were able to eat quickly, which catered well to our busy schedule. I did however, make time to have the Friday's wait staff sing me Happy Birthday, as I ate a huge brownie sunday for dessert! It was delicious!! Then we went to Universal Studios, where 4 Penn State players ( Jack Crawford, D'Anton Lynn, Mickey Shuler, and Stephon Green) got to ride the Incredible Hulk ride aka The Worlds Greatest Rollercoaster as told to me by all of the PSU players. We filmed them riding the ride, which gave me some good laughs. I'm a little afraid of heights, so the idea of dropping from hundreds of feet in the air, at speeds unimaginable to me, is not something I ever want to experience. But, the guys loved it! We spoke with them for a while after the ride, and got their feel for the entire Bowl Week Experience, thus far. The overall feeling from the team, was of excitement and eagerness for the big game. After editing several stories for nearly every nightly newscast, Jon and I were live for several shows. All went well, and our reward was seeing the final product on the air! My birthday was busy, but thrilling. I didn't get to ride any rides or celebrate heavily, but I did eat a wonderful dinner with a wonderful crew, and that is satisfying enough!! Please continue to watch all of our reports this week, and tune in for our 30 minute show, this Thursday at 7:30pm on WNEP! Sending you sunshine and love from Orlando ~Sharla~
