It's the end of an era in Scranton. Rosado Scranton Ford on the corner of Linden and Franklin is calling it quits.

Owners said this is a voluntary closure, meaning while the dealership is not going out of business they are closing for good and being sold back to Ford Motor Company.

Miriam Litvak of Scranton just bought her dream car, a 2010 Mustang at Scranton Ford. "I would love a mMstang. If not now, then when will I get it?" she asked.

Litvak is one of the last customers at Scranton Ford, a dealership that has been in operation for more than 40 years.

Owner Tony Rosado said Rord is consolidating dealerships across the country to avoid competition between local dealers. "We're one of the ones. We're going to exit the Ford business and the remaining dealers will cover the customer base that we used to have," Rosado explained.

That customer base dates back to the 1960s, when the dealership was known as Linden Ford and to the 1970s when it was known as Koerner Ford.

Once Scranton Ford closes, the only Ford dealership left in Lackawanna County will be Gibbons Ford in Dickson City.

Owner John Grow said Ford Motor Company paid for two-thirds of Scranton Ford and Gibbons Ford and three ford dealerships in Luzerne County chipped in for the last third.

Grow said he is anticipating more customers for parts, service and sales. "It should be a boom to our business. We'll increase hiring almost immediately," Grow said.

Ford customers, like our new Mustang owner, said they will miss having a dealership so close.

"It was right in our neighborhood and I was used to, aw. It's a shame," Litvak added.

Rosado said 23 full and part-time workers will be laid off. Some of them have already been placed at other Rosado dealerships.

The service department at Scranton Ford has already closed. The showroom will close on November 10.

Tony Rosado said he is going to turn the building into something else in the spring but he wouldn't reveal his plans just yet.
