Fire Victims Get Help
Thirty people are now homeless after the massive fire on Monroe Avenue in Scranton, including some University of Scranton students.

Some of those students said they lost everything in the blaze.

"Well the entire roof is caved in at this point and two of our roommates live on the third floor apartment and that looks like it's completely gone," said student Joseph Koivisto.

As fire fighters worked to battle hot spots. Gemma Williams and Koivisto surveyed the place where they once lived.

"Sitting outside, enjoying the day with my friend, Ashley, and Frank, our other roommate, called me and said, 'Something's burning down,' I said 'What's burning down?' He said, 'Our next door neighbors' and we got up here as soon as possible," Koivisto added.

A spokesperson from the University of Scranton said four students and a professor were affected by the fire. The univeristy said it will assist them with anything they need.

The students said they are just happy to see everyone out alive.

"We know all of our stuff is gone, but it's tough. As far as we know everyone got out of our house and the other houses and that's what really matters," said Gemma Williams.

The American Red Cross said it is assisting with everyone else affected by the fire.

No one was seriously hurt but one Scranton firefighter was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
