Fifteen people were forced out of their homes Saturday evening, when fire tore through an apartment building in Scranton.

The fire started around 6 p.m. on Luzerne Street. According to firefighters, the flames started in a mattress outside the building.

Investigators are looking for what sparked the flames.

Three apartments were damaged. Two people were taken to the hospital for breathing in too much smoke.

The American Red Cross is providing shelter for ten of the victims, the others are staying with relatives. The Red Cross is also providing food and clothing for all of the fire victims.

Charlotte Wright, the Director of Community Affairs for the American Red Cross said the fire is the 46th emergency the organization has responded to this year. That is just one emergency shy of last years total.
