Consider it a kind of delayed reaction after strong weekend storms in Schuylkill County.
A big oak tree toppled Wednesday, four days after the heavy wind and rain.
Mike Jevelle cut the huge invader in his yard near Ringtown. A massive oak tree fell, crushing a swing, damaging a car and hitting the roof of the home.
"Living out here you see it all the time but not right close to the house like that," Jevelle said.
The Jevelles said they knew there was a problem developing over the weekend during a storm when a split developed in the tree trunk.
"Oh boy, that was a huge tree though, but it started leaning Sunday. After that rain you could really see it leaning, you know," said Frank Prymak.
The family believes the storm over the weekend with all of the rain and wind weakened the tree to begin with and the tree is rotting away. All of those factors contributed to the tree falling.
The family called in a tree-cutting contractor but the tree fell before he could do anything.
"The guy told me last night it could last another 10 years or another 10 minutes. I guess it was 10 hours," Celie Jevelle said, chuckling.
Adam Jevelle heard the tree crash. Fortunately no one was in its way.
"I usually am in that spot, working on stuff. I am glad I wasn't today. Usually our dog, Bryson, is under the swing, so I am glad he didn't get crushed," said Adam Jevelle.
The Jevelles have several other large trees on their property. They may have them inspected hoping to avert more headaches.
