A thrift store that failed is making a comeback in Schuylkill County. New owners have taken over the place.

You can find just about anything at Life's Second Hand Treasures in Tamaqua. There are plants and flowers outside the store and trinkets and clothes inside. Mary Ann Rowlands says she depends on the place.

"I'm on a limited income. I just can't afford to spend in the big stores," Rowlands says.

Access Services, a non-profit group, runs the store. The place closed a few months ago after the businessman who ran it complained of issues including a lack of traffic. Access Services promises to make the store work.

"We sell the things cheaper than he was," says Lori Miller of Access Services. "He was selling more expensive. I would think with our prices, people come in, and we've had a steady flow and, once someone comes in, they're always coming back."

Access Services in Schuylkill County runs programs for the physically and mentally challenged. Some profits from the store will support those programs. Some of the Access clients even help out..

"It teaches them life skills, and the training doesn't hurt anybody," says Scott Locher of Access Services. "And, that's what we like to do. Make their lives a little more meaningful."
