The unemployment rate is around 10 percent in some areas and competition for jobs is nearly at an all-time high. That has forced some changes for those who help the jobless.

Sharon Tropp gave job-hunting tips Tuesday to about 20 people at the CareerLink office in Pottsville. The numberof those attending is unusual.

"We don't have enough case managers to do it on a one-to-one basis. We have to do it in groups," said Bonnie Kessler of CareerLink "because of the number of unemployed. We have 300 people coming in each week."

The jobless at CareerLink get training on everything from writing resumes to using body language during a job interview. They welcome the help.

"It's tough, it's competitive. There is a lot of people searching for jobs," said Jim Schwebel of Cumbola.

"I have a lot of experience over the years. I am sending the applications out but there aren't a lot of responses back. Of the 50 I have sent out since the beginning of January I've had one telephone interview," said Tom Lowe of Frackville.
